What's on the Fashion Calendar for October 2012?

It's fashion week in Paris. Need I say more? For those of us not able to attend the couture shows, here are some highlights of what is happening in the world of fashion and art in October.

October 8 and 24, 2012: Tours of Ivy Style by Richard Press at FIT Museum
This hot ticket, featuring Richard Press, grandson of Jacobi Press, the founder of J. Press, is SOLD OUT. But you can still see this entertaining presentation of how the "Ivy League Look" came to be during regular museum hours.

October 13, 2012 The Impressionist Masterpieces of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute opens at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art
This exhibition features 74 paintings by Bonnard, Corot, Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Millet, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley and Toulouse-Latutrec, as well as the Degas Sculpture Little Dancer Aged Fourteen. Collected by the heir to the Singer sewing machine fortune, Robert Sterling Clark, this selection of paintings sets out to allow "visitors to see how the new 'modernism' challenged official painting. Montreal is the only Canadian venue for this exhibition, which will tour Japan, China and South Korea before returning to the Clark Institute for the opening of its galleries in July 2014.

October 14, 2012:  The Story of the Stiletto, a lecture by curator Elizabeth Semmelhack of the Bata Shoe Museum
As part of the Roger Vivier Lecture Series, Bata Shoe Museum curator Elizabeth Semmelhack will consider "the history of the stiletto, Roger Vivier's role in its refinement and the place the stiletto has held in women's wardrobes for over fifty years."

October 19, 2012: Frida and Diego: Passion, Politics and Painting at the Art Gallery of Ontario
Frida Kahlo is one of those unforgettable women whose sense of style spoke volumes. Eclectic and colourful, her self portraits paint a vivid picture of her colourful and passionate persona.  The exhibition Frida and Diego: Passion, Politics and Painting at the AGO will feature more than 80 works on paper and paintings by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera and more than 60 photographs of the couple, whose shared passion for each other and their involvement in Mexico's revolutionary culture during the 1920s and 1930s have made them one of the most famous artist couples.
