My Picks from New York Fashion Week, Part 1

Victoria Beckham FW 2012
Of the shows so far, my favourite looks come from Victoria Beckham. Elegant, sexy and streamlined, these wearable dresses are ones that I would welcome into my wardrobe.

DVF FW 2012
Other favourites from the shows so far include Diane Von Furstenberg and Donna Karan. Funny how women designers seem to know what other women want.

DKNY FW 2012
Tommy Hilfiger FW 2012
Far too many looks from the runway seem heavy-handed and depressing (in spite of the tweets of fashion writers who seem to like everything they see). The predominance of black, leather and bondage inspired looks on the runway so far makes for a gloomy outlook, especially in Thieysken's Theory, Jeremy Laing, Carolina Herrera, and Zac Posen). At this point in the winter, I am utterly sick of black and welcome pops of colour into my wardrobe. With so many collections, they start to run together and all look the same. For me, elegance rules the day and Victoria Beckham is the new design star.

That DvF dress - stunning! You're right though VB is doing pretty well and I to am ready for some colour and something less heavy than all that winter stuff. Keep warm and have a luuurvely Valentine's day ;-) xo

I'm very impressed by the VB dresses - It's nice when pop sensations bridge to other things with such talent - she's a natural.

Color is what we need today...a little red, perhaps? Happy Valentine's Day, Ingrid.

Colour colour colour, I agree! I like the look of VB's dresses, but I have to say that since I do not personally care for her, I would not be in line for her creations...
Have a love-ly day today Ingrid!
I will be responding to your questions very soon! Somehow the days are running away from me...

I remember reading last year about Victoria Beckham being a surprise hit... funny how you really can't guess these things. Happy for her actually - she gets a lot of bad press I have a feeling she doesn't deserve. Nice post Ingrid. Kx

Every year my son's high school holds a fashion show for where the senior men and their Mom's are in the show. It's an absolute that ALL the women look so much better in color than black. Black really drains them.

Thanks again for the summary!!

Agreed - I'm drawn to the bright blue and red dresses. Spekaing of Mrs.Beckham, have you seen her new diffusion line? There are some beautiful pieces, cheeky bright colours and fun prints. I think it's great - see what you make of it:

Ingrid dear ... .

Love your picks here - so refreshing to see simple silhouettes and even your geek looks. Much prefer them to the screaming Tramp/Slut look ! The one piece that melted my heart was, alas, black with a dramatic texture and feminine shape.( I posted a pic on my blog) Not wearable for my life, but I'd hang it on a mannequin in the living room ;-)

Thanks so much for your sweet note about Miss Bassman - much appreciated.
